Christopher C. Giza, MD
Professor - Departments of Pediatrics and Neurosurgery - UCLA
Christopher Giza graduated from Dartmouth College, received his M.D. from West Virginia University and completed his training in Neurology at UCLA. He then worked on the Yosemite Search and Rescue team before joining the UCLA Brain Injury Research Center in 1998. He served on the California State Athletic Commission from 2005-2015, and traveled to Afghanistan in 2011 as a civilian advisor to the Department of Defense. He founded and directs the UCLA Steve Tisch BrainSPORT program, and serves as Medical Director for the Operation MEND-Wounded Warrior Project mild TBI program. Dr. Giza co-authored concussion / mild TBI guidelines for the American Academy of Neurology, Centers for Disease Control and the Concussion in Sport Group (Berlin guidelines), and has been a clinical consultant for the NFL, NHL/NHLPA, NBA, MLB and Major League Soccer. He is a Professor of Pediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine and UCLA Mattel Children’s Hospital.
Grant L. Iverson, PhD
Professor - Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation - Harvard Medical School
Dr. Grant Iverson is a Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School. He is the Director of the Concussion Research Program for the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. He is the Director of the MassGeneral Hospital for Children™ Sports Concussion Program. He also serves as the Associate Director of the Traumatic Brain Injury Program at Home Base, A Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program. He is a leading proponent of a biopsychosocial model for conceptualizing both good and poor outcome from mild traumatic brain injury in athletes, civilians, active duty military service members, and veterans. He has published more than 380 articles, reviews, and book chapters.
Dr. Iverson served as the Chair for the Canadian Psychological Association Section on Clinical Neuropsychology from 2003-2010. He was a Member of the Board of Governors of the International Neuropsychological Society from 2008-2011. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the International Brain Injury Association (2012-2017). He served as a consensus panel member for the 3rd and 4th International Conferences on Concussion in Sport in Zurich, Switzerland in 2008 and 2012, and the 5th International Conference in Berlin in 2016. He served as an Advisor to the Neurocognitive Disorders Workgroup (Traumatic Brain Injury) for the Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition (DSM-V). He also served as a founding member of the Traumatic Brain Injury Subcommittee of the Defense Health Board, a chartered civilian advisory board to the United States Secretary of Defense. He served as the President of the National Academy of Neuropsychology in 2015, and as a member of the Board of Governors (2014-2018).
Dr. Mihaly Kis
NEUROSURGEON - TRILLIUM HEALTH PARTNERS
Dr. Mihaly Kis is a neurosurgeon with Trillium Health Partners based in Mississauga, Ontario. He graduated Magna Cum Lauda with a BSc in Anatomy and Cell Biology from McGill University in 2000, before completing his MD at Queen's University in 2004. Dr. Kis then specialized in Neurosurgery at Dalhousie University from 2004-2010, and a sub-specialty in pituitary microsurgery from 2010-2011.
Dr. Kis is now a staff neurosurgeon at Trillium Health Partners, and their Surgical Director of the Neuropituitary program. He is also neurosurgery lecturer at the University of Toronto.
He has been focused on concussion for many years and holds international patents for a revolutionary helmet testing device designed for concussion prevention. Dr. Kis is an expert reviewer for the British Journal of Sports Medicine, Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, the Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences, and has multiple peer reviewed publications in the field of concussion prevention and sports helmet safety testing. He is a frequent presentor at national neurosurgical conferences on the topic of helmet testing, concussion prevention and remote presence robotics.
